Check Out The ACREofART Exhibition!
Posted on Jul 27, 2017 by Appleton Downtown Inc.
The first exhibition of monumental public sculpture in nearly two decades, has hit Appleton by storm. as Sculpture Valley unveiled their premier season of the ACREofART exhibition, introducing the public to the 2017 selection of 10 sculptures currently installed in the Downtown and Riverfront districts.
Enjoy a virtual walking tour run through the arts tour app, Otocast. Each of the sculpture plaques in the ACRE contain a scannable QR code to take users directly to the free app, which youwill need to install to take the tour. Outcast is used by nearly every major arts and sculpture program around the country for self-guided tours.
The ACREofART program is based on a successful temporary sculpture lease model where nationally known artists submit existing works to a Call for Entry and a Jury evaluates the submissions for final selection. This year, ACREofART received 36 entries to the Call and were challenged to hone that number down to 10 finalists. Then Sculpture Valley worked closely with ADI to secure sponsorships for the works and helped determine site selections along College Avenue.
2017’s winning entrants include a couple of hometown natives who’ve made it big in the sculpture world, Nic Noblique currently residing in Clyde, Texas and Andrew Arvanetes from DeKalb, Illinois. Ruth Aizuss Migdal is coming up from Chicago with a colorful expression of feminine freedom and William Fillmore from Albany, passed through a few weeks back to install his dreamscape piece, which has already generated some attention.
The ACREofART also welcomes Wisconsin native Mike Godell from Stevens Point and local sculpture extraordinaire Rob Neilson, who was recently awarded commissions for 2 monumental works in the Exhibition Center. ACREofART will also feature Victoria Patti from Arvada, Colorado whose meditation bench will surely become the go-to photo-op spot in the College Avenue parklet and Jeremy Nuttall who may be looking for a handle when he places his work in Soldiers Square.
The Jury’s choice by Kansas City’s Will Vannerson will stand proudly in front of the Copperleaf hotel while a block away, Sam Spiczka’s piece has already taken flight in front of First American Title Insurance Company Evans Title Division.
The ACREofART program is entirely funded by private sponsorships without which the program would not exist. Please consider attending the premier to thank the sponsors for bringing additional art to the Appleton Community.
