APPLETON (WLUK) -- Appleton's Spirit of the American Doughboy monument resumed its post on Monday.

Just in time for Veterans Day and Armistice Day commemorations, the Spirit of the American Doughboy is once again greeting drivers on the south side of Appleton.

The statue honoring Outagamie County service members who fought in World War I was sent to Iowa in July to be re-cast.

The statue -- which sits in the median of S. Memorial Drive just north of Calumet Street -- honors soldiers from Outagamie County who fought in World War I.

In July, it was sent to a foundry in Iowa, where a mold of the original statue was taken and a new one was cast in bronze.

The original statue, which was installed in 1934, had been restored three times previously.

On Saturday, which is Armistice Day and Veterans Day, a rededication and commemoration event will be held, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
